Limit for custom views to choose from in a web part?

    Question

  • I'm building a sharepoint online site and have come across a real show stopper.

The site has a single Document library for which I'm using a large number of views to filter content. I'm building site pages which includes a filtered view of the Document library as a part of the page (web part). There have been no problems until now. I've set up new filters in the Document library as the ones before. When it comes to customizing the web part on (new) site page, the newly created views are not listed. It's not related to me as a user since a colleague of mine also have the same problem. It seems that we've hit a maximum number of views that can be listed in the customizing of a web part.

Is there a way around this problem?

  • You don't need to build the views on the central library, you can just configure the same settings on the view used in the webpart. That information isn't stored in the list/library so it won't have any scaling issues ever.

  • I want the filtering to be available in the document library and I have to set it on the library.

For now it seems I have to do it both places since I can't choose newer filter settings from det document library in the web part.

  • That many views implies that there's a problem with the process, Metadata navigation would be more efficient and allow the process to scale.
