Allow list items to show up in search while permission "View Application Pages" has been removed. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

We are facing a problem here, we are using a custom list but we implemented our own edition form because we needed additional business logic at the form level. Therefore and to make sure users do not use the OOTB forms we have removed the "View Application Pages" permission.

But doing so make the search unable to crawl items from this list.

So how can I avoid users to use the OOTB Add/Edit forms of the list without making the search unable to crawl items from this list ?

    Any suggestion ?

  • i would suggest you to have ur customized form in the same list folder instead having it in the application pages..

if you are using designer move the pages from the application pages folder to the folder of the list... Eg if you have created page hello.aspx for the list CList

drag the hello.aspx from the application pages folder to the CList folder.

so in that way you can access the page from the url http:\\site\CList\hello.aspx

which may change the behaviour of ur need.

  • Open the site in SharePoint Designer, browse to the list and go to its properties. Here you can remove the OOTB forms associated with the list.

  • Hi, Thanks to both of you for your answers.

@Knortix: the custom forms are not the problem. The problem is the OOTB forms.

@Shubham: that's a way to go, but that's a bit radical. Doing so will mean that no users at all, even Site owner, will be able to use the OOTB forms.

I would prefer a solution where permissions could limit access to the New/Edit/Display form.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Sébastien,

Did you find a solution to this problem?

  • Yeah, but not a sexy one.

We changed permissions to grant "Readers" with the "View Application Pages" permissions so the Search service can still index the items for readers and we made a Control Adapter to redirect users trying to reach the OOTB form to the custom form.
