    Using SPD 2010 i created a custom task process. I have added a custom task field "Test field". Now on "Before Task is assigned " process, I am using "Set Task field" action to set 'Test field' value to a workflow variable. But when a task is created the 'test field' remains blank...

    are there any complications or certain ways to use set task field action, please let me know,, thought this is pretty straight forward..

    You're right, it is a straight forward process.  The only error I could see happening is if you have the test field value updating before the variable is set.
