DPM 2012R2 : Drive C - Out of Space RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We using Microsoft Data Protection Manager as backup software to backup exchange database ( Exchange 2013 ).

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Drive C:\ remaining disk space less 130MB from 300GB

The server currently host Window 2012R2 Operating System, Microsoft Data Protection Manger 2012 R2 and SQL 2012.

Initial configuration for: ----------------------------------- HDD Drive C:\150GB , disk space issue on early October 2016 (disk space is less than 2GB) Extend HDD Drive C:\ to 300GB and again disk space issue 5 Dec 2016(disk space less 500MB Server Information: OS : Window 2012 R2 DPM: 4.2.1312.0 SQL: SQL 2012 (log, data and Index on separate disk which is drive D:\ Server : Dell 720 , 20 Core  Memory : for OS (48GB) and SQL (48GB) Protected Server Configuration: Total Protected : 190 Disk for DPM : 10 LUN with 6TB per disk Retention Period for each Protected Server : 10 days. Hopefully with this information, I hope that someone can advise and give me some idea to resolve this issue. Really appreciate on the solution and Thank in advance.

    Action Taken:

    (1)  Restart Server

    (2)  Move SQL 2012 (log, data and Index to separate disk (Drive D)

    (3)  Try Delete Shadowcopy using Vssadmin (failed) error something like “please remove shadowcopy from backup software”

    (4)  Change retention policy from 30 days to 1 day and restart server. Drive C space still less than 500MB

My Request: (1) Is the any script to check hidden file use by dpm on Drive C ? (2) Any Script to delete shadowcopy ? could fine powershell script pruneshadowcopy.ps1 on the net.

    Thank You
