Internet Explorer doesn't display SharePoint Online pages using Verdana font RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recent update to Internet Explorer has resulted in almost all of our SharePoint pages not rendering correctly. We use 'Verdana' font in all our SharePoint sites that's been configured via Themes. Thus no unsupported customizations deployed. Site master page is out-of-the-box seattle.master.

    IE loads the page however text is either overlapping other text or getting cut. Anyone out there had a similar issue or found any solution to this.

    IE version is 11.0.9600.18793.

  • Hi,

    What Adobe software have you installed? Does this occur on all workstations or just those that have Adobe software products installed?

    For a test You can turn off external fonts from Internet Options>Advanced tab, Accessibility button... check "Ignore font styles specified on web pages"

    Regards.

  • Hi Jeetlal,

    Nope...No resolution yet.

    We have logged a support case with Microsoft and where Microsoft acknowledges the problem is on their side, they are still investigating the best way to fix it.

    As a workaround, Microsoft engineer suggested changing the font to one of the built-in SharePoint Online fonts e.g. Segoe UI.

    We have decided to wait for Microsoft to release a fix rather than change the font at this stage.

  • Hi SinghG,

    Thank you for the update.

    Even I have tried the simialr workaround to some sites, changed font verdana to arial in .spfont file, then issue does not occur. But the text font gets reduced and also affects list/libraries columns. Do you know when Microsoft will relese a fix for this?

  • Hi Jeetlal,

    Microsoft won't release a fix for this issue. They have put this in too hard basket and one of the reasons given was that their focus is on Edge browser.

    This doesn't help if company computers aren't upgraded to Windows 10 which comes with the Edge browser.

    However, I have been trying few style fixes and have locked-in the below change that seems to resolve the issue.

    Code simply sets the font on main root content container and we use a media query to target the fix to IE only.

    Css code can be deployed either via alternate CSS or using a script link.

    @media all and (-ms-high-contrast: none), (-ms-high-contrast: active) {
    #s4-workspace {
    font-family: Verdana;
    }
    }
