Wrong Email address in GAL-Exchange 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I am not sure on how to fix this issue I am having, we are running Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008. One of the user's email address in Global Address List shows as Lakishab@abc.com, but AD and Exchange mailbox properties shows correct email address as Lakeshab@abc.com. First name is misspelled Lakisha instead of Lakesha, can someone please help me resolve this issue.
Only way I can think of fixing this, is by recreating mailbox.
    Thanks,

  • Hello,

If you can see the correct email address in OWA, but cannot get correct email address in Outlook, you can follow these steps to have a try:

    On the Server side:

Run this command to update for the Address Book:

    Update-OfflineAddressBook “Name of Address Book”

    On the client side:

Open Outlook->Tools->Send/Receive->Download Address Book->Uncheck Download changes since last Send/Receive, make sure Download Full Details is checked->OK (wait the download complete)

After that, you can re-check for the address in GAL.

  • What does OWA show? That is live information.
If OWA shows it as correct, then I can only guess that the OAB isn't being regenerated correctly. Forcing an OAB regneration might help.

  • Hi Simon,

OWA does show correct email address, but not global address list.

    Thanks

OWA is accessing the AD directly, so what it sees is the same thing
the GAL would show an Outlook user. However, if Outlook is working in
cached-mode then it's using the Offline Address Book (OAB) and not the
    Global Address List (GAL).

Check the application log on the mailbox server that's responsible for
generating the OAB and see if it's failing for some reason. You should
also verify that the replication of the OAB from the mailbox server to
the CAS server(s) is functioning correctly. Finally, if everything
looks good, exit Outlook and then find, and deleted, the *.oab files
from the client. Restart Outlook and force an OAB download.

  • Thank you Evan, that did the trick. After running update command I can see the correct email address. But what I don't understand is that this user was created couple months ago, then why was it showing wrong email address? and second OAB is set to auto update daily then why was it not updated?

I also created distribution group and that got updated overnight.

    Thanks,

  • Rich,

I was able update OAB and correct email does show up, I did not see anything in Application log, also how do I check if replication of OAB to CAS is fuctioning properly?

    Thanks,
