Server cannot access internet if configured DNS to be itself RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I am very new to server 2016 and not with it all. when we have the DNS set as itself (as recommended in guides) the server cannot access the internet on itself, however, any pc on the domain can access the internet no issues, and their DNS is configured to be the server.

The server is set up to be DHCP server and DNS and AD services. If you remove an outside DNS as the primary in the adapter you get the triangle, and DNS probe fails when trying to access pages on the internet.

    Thanks

    Stu

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

Set up a forwarder on the DNS server.

    Best regards,

    Travis

  • Thanks, This was already set up, <g class="gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="25" id="25">however</g> I have removed the secondary DNS as 1.1.1.1 and it is now working, I wonder if one of the updates and a reboot resolved.

    Thanks
