  • Question

  • Hello All,

I hope you all are fine.  I want to test out the functionality of Microsoft Forefront UAG 2010 for which I am planning to build a Lab enviornment.  I have following questions:

    1.  At minimum what software and hardware requirements are needed?

    2.  Does UAG support following:

        -  Publishing of Websites?

        -  Auditin on the published websites like who is logged in and who is downloading and what is being downloaded and such statistics over a period of time?

        -  Access control on the published websites like only such users can access that web page, scheduling and etc. etc.

        -  Consolidation of Exchange, Lync, Sharepoint, VPN edge servers on to a single edge server?

Keeping in mind above requirements, what software and hardware would be required?

Also, if someone can guide me to a documentation which has more details i would really appreciate that.

    tHANKS IN ADVANCE.

  • Hello There!

I love it when I hear that people want to play with UAG.   Microsoft has some great virtual labs in which you can play with UAG 2010.

If you want something in your lab to trial the product, you can contact a company like Celestix Networks and request an evaluation appliance.   The other option is to download the Microsoft TechNet subscription version which is used only for testing.

Below Website documents the Hardware Requirements.

    Yes, we can publish websites

Yes, we UAG has powerful logging and auditing capabilities including statistics.  If you want to know how many times File-X was downloaded, I would recommend a webserver side application that handles that however.

We can do access control based on who you are.  However there is no feature like scheduling...  IE, John can only log in at 5:00AM, However you could defintely do that feature with a customization.

You can consolidate your perimeter but I prefer to seperate them apart.    The general idea is that its a single IP but UAG will handle publishing multiple sites using unique hostnames.  ie, lync usually requires 2 hostnames,  sharepoint has AAM.  etc...

    Thank you
