Is It Possible To Recover The MSSPS Farm Admin Password? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Am currently running MS Server 2007  Version 12.0.4518.1016

I inherited the current infrastructure and did not get the password from the person who previously administered this server.  I need to
authenticate as the MSSPS Farm Admin.  However,  I do not know the password.  Is it possible to recover it or even reset it?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sincerely,

    Rob S.

  • Hi Rob,

In this situation, you can try to change the service account passwords or add users to SharePoint Farm Administrators group, both of them is achieved through stsadm command.

To add Farm Administrators, Central Administration is just another site collection, you can use add people and groups in a site collection to achieve this, the command is like: stsadm –o adduser –url http://servername –userlogin domain\Administrators1 –useremail administrators1@company.com –group “Farm Administrators” –username “Administrators1”

To change service account password in SharePoint Server 2007, please refer to the following link for more information:

    Thanks,
    Qiao
