  • Hi,

    I am having Windows server 2008 R2 server. Everytime we will get the error as,

    Event ID: 8193 - VSS..

    Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine ConvertStringSidToSid(S-1-5-21-1912508229-386351500-4206070068-4586.bak).  hr = 0x80070539, The security ID structure is invalid.
    .

    Operation:
       OnIdentify event
       Gathering Writer Data

    Context:
       Execution Context: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer
       Writer Class Id: {4dc3bdd4-ab48-4d07-adb0-3bee2926fd7f}
       Writer Name: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer
       Writer Instance ID: {ab0e7532-8e48-441d-8f9a-de0451e2a6c7}

    We have rebooted the server, it works for some days only.

    Can you please suggest the permanent fix for this issue?

  • with the .bak behind the sid, i could imagine thats from a temporary user profile. do you have any events suggesting user profile problems? if so, try to find out the cause for that.

    I suspect Volume Shadow Service (VSS) 'Shadow Copy Optimization Writer' is not fuctioning correctly.

    Please check if all your VSS writers are in stable state,

    VSSadmin list writers

    Initiate the above command to check the state of VSS wrtiters.

    Would it be like that? is this issue could be related temp profile loading of users profile?

    Can you please brief me how it is related this VSS issue?

    Can you please unmark your reply as the answer, as it quite clearly wasn't the answer, as stated, quite clearly, by the OP.

    Vivian, This is the very reason why this Website looses credibility amongst IT professionals. It seems to be all too much of a habit for the MS TechNet reps to make such blatant errors in their judgement. Please take a little more care and pride in the community Microsoft is trying to maintain here.

    I can feel Hosemonster's frustration, below, even if I don't agree with his methods.
