  Will not read dvd

  Are you sure the problem is with Media Player?  Can you read any CD or DVD on the drive?  Will the DVD play on another system?

  How about some details.  Which version of XP?  Which SP level?  Which version of Media Player?  Is it a commercial DVD or one you built?  What type of DVD - music, video, files?  How are you invoking Media Player?  Does Media Player produce any error messages?
