folder recovery point. RRS feed

  • Question

  • The folder Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Volumes\Replica contains lastest recovery point.

How can I recover the oldest recovery point (and all recovery point) from "file system"?

    Thank You

  • Hi,

The replica is the latest data from the last successful synchronization, and is not really a recovery point.  Only shadow copies can be recovered from DPM recovery tab.

So what is the senario, why would you have a need to recover a folder outside of DPM console ?  If you have end user recovery enabled, then you can restore directly from a client machine by mapping a network drive to the protected servers share - or the share on the DPM server itself.  If you don't have EUR enabled, then follow the Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Volumes\Replica\... path down to the FULL folder and share out the FULL folder, then map a network drive to that share and you can view previous versions and copy older versions of files out.

This does not work for application data (sql, exchange, etc) backups, only volume \ file \ folder \ share protection.
