PowerPoint 2013 Taskbar Always Shows in Slideshow Mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • After this weeks update my users are noticing that the taskbar does not hide during their slideshows.  I have noticed this only happening on our Surface Pros.  I'm not sure if this from a PowerPoint update or Microsoft's latest firmware update for the Surface Pro.  Does anyone else with a SurfacePro see this?

  • We had the same behaviour on our Windows 8 Pro tablets.

Removing the last Powerpoint 2013 update (KB2817525) fixed this malfunction..

  • Just an update.  The problem goes away when I set the DPI scaling back to 100% and the problem comes back when I set the DPI scaling to 150%

  • Hi

Open the PowerPoint presentation and click on Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show > make sure you haven't select Browsed by an individual (window) > OK
Close and re-open the presentation and verify the result.

Since the problem arised after your recent updates, we would recommend you go to Control panel>Program and features>View installed updates and remove your recent updates to check the issue.

  • I have the same problem and don't have those updates.
    Office 2013 and Win 8.1.

I noticed that if you move the mouse to the presentation and click on it, the taskbar dissapears, which eases the pain a bit.

Someone at MS needs to fix this soon! It's a huge problem.

  • Hi,

    1) I had a same problem. I am launching slide show in my own window. The problem is that taskbar is always showing up and only in windows 8.1. My same app is fine on windows 7.

Now my confusion is, does this have to do something with the update discussed above? Can i rely on this update as a solution for this issue or is there something i have to look in my code?

    2) There's also one more weird behavior of PowerPoint 13 , that my 2nd slide gets zoomed and content(image for ex.) gets truncated from right side. Even if i swap content of 2nd slide with any other(say 3rd or 4th), whatever goes on 2nd slide, is getting zoomed.

This is happening on win7(32bit) / office 2013/ resolution 1600 x 900. Does this again have to do something with above update?

    Please help..it's real urgent

  • Dec. 6, 2016 - Sorry! This is not a solution. I, too, am having the same problem. I am using the newest version (paying the annual premium) and am getting the taskbar on my PowerPoint. Although it is not critical, it is very distracting. How DOES one remove it?

  • I had this problem myself. The solution is quite simplistic. If you have tried slide presentation settings or selecting and then un-selecting the "show task-bar" option within the actual presentation. Maybe you even went into the advanced settings and searched everywhere for something fishy.

Well, all that didn't work... Just do as your instinct probably told you to do first - Restart your computer!!! You may have to do it a couple times, I personally did it twice... But it works!!

  • Make sure you have "Presented by a speaker (full screen)" set in the "Show type" section in the "Setup Slide Show" options of Powerpoint.

If this doesn't help, you may have an application or service running which blocks the taskbar and prevents it from minimizing. Try restarting Windows Explorer which may help in such a case. (Open Windows Task Manager (Crtl-Shift-ESC), select the "Processes" tab, scroll down to the "Windows Processes" section, right click on "Windows Explorer" and select "Restart".)
