Presence Unknown Skype 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are experiencing an issue where some users are seeing 'Updating...' for users presence within Skype. When I remove these contacts from favorites and restart Skype, I can search for these users and see their availability. When I add them back to favorites I can see their availability as well. But as soon as I restart Skype again, those contacts just go back to 'Updating...' I am currently on Office version 16.0.6741.2063 and Skype is up to date. This is only happening for SOME users and not all. I have tried clearing the cache on both Outlook and Skype but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hi Caleb,

Did you configure UCS in your organization?

If you don’t configure UCS in organization and for disabling UCS, please run the following command for global user:

    Set-CsUserServicesPolicy -Identity global -UcsAllowed $False

If you want to create policy for not working user, please create a new user service policy:

    New-CsUserServicesPolicy -Identity "DisabledwUnifiedContactStore" -UcsAllowed $false

Then assign this policy to the specific user:

Grant-CsUserServicesPolicy -Identity "Ken Myer" -PolicyName "DisabledUnifiedContactStore"

  • Update-CsUserDatabase - give this a try. Make sure to remove the clients sip profile as well so it gets a new one.

  • Hi Caleb,

    Welcome to our forum.

Please tell us whether the problematic and working user account is in the same pool. And whether the specific application was installed on the PC which the problematic user account logon.

In addition to above suggestion, we could refer to the following steps for troubleshooting:

    1. Disable A/V software and Windows firewall for those PC
    2. Re-configure the problematic account on different PC with different subnet
    3. Create a new group in Skype 2016, move re-added user account from Favorites group to new group
    4. Run Skype 2016 without opening outlook to check if the issue was caused by add-in

We are looking forward to your back.

If there are any questions or issues, please be free to let me know and we will pleasure to help you.

    Best Regard

  • After doing some research we found that all the users who are showing 'Updating...' as their presence are located on the same server. Though it is strange because only some users are unable to see these users Skype presence. After doing more research we found that the users who were unable to see those particular users presence had different Skype configurations than the rest of us. Specifically, their Contact List Provider was UCS instead of Skype for Business Server. Also, Container list Preferred Endpoint was set to FALSE instead of TRUE. I was able to fix the Contact List Provider issue but was hoping someone could please help with how to change the Container list Preferred Endpoint to TRUE. Thank you!!!
