Add Windows Update packages offline RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I want to do a offline update of our Windows 7 installation image (wim).

I have installed all necessary updates on a reference computer. Afterwards I map the Windows folder of that computer on our MDT 2013 server, and then run the following:
    Start /w for /R z:\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ %f in (*.cab) do DISM /image:D:\Mount /add-package /packagepath:%f

The above command seems to work, but I get the following error:
    "DISM /image:D:\Mount /add-package /packagepath:z:\SoftwareDistribution\Download\b069666a9627c88af9405a0dfcf9e100\

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.3.9600.17031

    Image Version: 6.1.7600.16385

    Processing 1 of 1 - Adding package Package_for_KB2968294~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~
    [===========================66.1%======                    ]
    An error occurred - Package_for_KB2968294 Error: 0x800f0816

    Error: 0x800f0816

DISM failed. No operation was performed.
For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

I have been searching for the solution, and the error seems to be caused by the fact that the Windows installation (the wim image) has a pending restart which is shown because the file C:\Windows\Winsxs\pending.xml is existing.

    Is this a known issue?

  • MDT was not designed to perform offline updates.

  • I can see that MDT can't do offline updates directly, but it's possible to slipstream with DISM as well as add the updates as packages in MDT manually.

  • Keith,

As I wrote earlier I can see that MDT isn't designed to do offline updates. My post is regarding DISM, but can't see which forum I should post questions regarding that subject?

I have created the deployment share with MDT 2013 and it's working fine. I then want to mount the source .WIM file with DISM and do a offline installation of the available Windows Updates. I can do all the steps, but I get the above error.

I have encountered a different issue. When I import certain Windows Updates into the .WIM I receive a error will deploying from WinPE/PXE. I have done some testing and it seems to be when I import KB2919355.
