Hyper-V deployment questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're looking at replacing a branch office server, the server is currently serving the following functions;

    DC running Windows 2003 R2
    DNS Server
    DHCP Server
    File and Print Server

    We were planning on Windows Server 2008 R2 and using Hyper-V, but I have the following questions;

    1) Should the host be a member of the domain?

    2) We're going to create a virtual server on the host to serve as the local DC, DNS, DHCP and File and Print server. Will this present a problem if this is virtualized?

    3) We'll have another virtual server on the host running 2008 R2, SQL and IIS for the line of business. This is pretty straigh forward and shouldn't present a problem.

    The branch is connected to our main office via a point to point VPN, our main office has two physical domain controllers.

    Thank you,
    Brian
