ConfigureSharePoint with DPM 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • When protecting Sharepoint there is a requirement to run ConfigureSharePoint

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399069.aspx

    Questions:

    1) Other than ensuring Sharepoint MetaData is backed up specifically is there a list of what this executable does?

    2) Is there a way to check to ensure that this script has been run on a particular Sharepoint farm?

    3) Is there a way to reverse the changes made by the executable?

    4) Should this be run on all Sharepoint farms included Windows Sharepoint Server 2007 single server config?

  • Don,

The URL you have listed lists all of the settings that you can change.  It doesn't do much, except what it lists.

The only way that you can tell if configuresharepoint.exe has been run on a server is to see if the SharePoint Services Writer is listed in a vssadmin list wrtiers output from an elevated command prompt.

You can reverse the registry settings that the configuresharepoint.exe puts in the registry and as far as the writer is concerned, you can run %program Files%\Common Files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\14\bin\stsadm –o unregisterwsswriter.

Configuresharepoint.exe is only run on 1 WFE server.  Running it on more than one WFE server can generate problems when starting a backup so make sure it is only run on one server.
