  • In Excel 2010, the data model is encapsulated by the PowerPivot addin and not accessible to the Power Query addin. You can, however, either load to the sheet or don't load at all (clear that one check box you saw) and then go to PowerPivot and find the connection(s) that Power Query created and use them.

  • Is it possible that you are using Excel 2010? If so, you would not have a Data Model, but a PowerPivot window. Power Query is not able to load data to the PowerPivot window.
