WSUS Server 2012 R2 Fully patched keeps crashing. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can no longer use WSUS because of what I assume is the kb3148812 issue.  I've followed the directions from many articles, basically all saying the same thing, but I can't get the console to work for more than a minute maybe two after I reboot the server.  These are the directions I've followed:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/wsus/2016/05/05/the-long-term-fix-for-kb3148812-issues/

Should I just blow the server away and start over, or is there another way to fix this?

Here is the error from the console:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, <g class="gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="15" id="15">IIS</g> and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

  • Hi Sir,

    >>These are the directions I've followed:

    Do you mean these steps:

    "

    1. Uninstall test package
    2. [Optional] uninstall KB3148812
    3. Install KB3159706
    4. Reboot your WSUS server

    "

Have you followed the manual operations mentioned in KB 3159706:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159706/update-enables-esd-decryption-provision-in-wsus-in-windows-server-2012

If all of them have been done , but the issue persists , I'd suggest you re-build WSUS server (it would be the short-path to get WSUS back).

In addition , regarding remove WSUS role please check :

    http://www.chadfixit.com/scripting/reinstall-wsus-on-a-windows-2012-server/

    Best Regards,

    Elton

  • Hi Elton,

Yes, I had done all those steps in the past and they did not help.  I followed the steps on the chadfixit website and the server is synchronizing updates now.  Hopefully, it will continue to work for me.

    Thanks for the help.

    Mike
