Proofing tools for other languages then English, French and Spanish RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

We are a translation company and we work with a lot of different languages. We are using office 2007. When we try to run a spell check on a Portuguese document, for example, we get the error bellow. I tried to install the language pack from Microsoft and it said that it was already installed. When I go to the Proofing menu on the Word options and I open the custom dictionaries, on the dictionaries languages only shows different types of English, French and Spanish. I would like to know if it is possible to add other dictionaries. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

  • Each installation of Office comes with a limited number of proofing languages. For Office 2007 and 2010 you could purchase additional language packs from Microsoft, but Microsoft has discontinued language packs for those versions.

For Office 2013 and 2016 you can download proofing tools without charge.

  • Hi,

Please try the following steps and then check if the issue persists:

    1. Open a Word document.

    2. Click Review tab.

    3. Click Set Language button in the Proofing group.

    4. Find and click on Portuguese (Brazil), click OK.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for your help. I tried that but it did not work. Even if I set the language to Portuguese (Brazil) I get the same error saying that there's no proofing tools for Portuguese (Brazil). I can only use the Spelling & Grammar on those languages that are in the Dictionary. Is there a way to add new languages? Let me know, thanks.
