dpm 2007 os upgrade to 2008 R2 assigns drive letters to dpm volumes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was testing out the os upgrade from server 2003 x64 to 2008 R2 for dpm 2007 in a vm to prepare for an upgrade to dpm2010.  I was follwing the instructions from the 2010 upgrade advisor.  Everything went well except for one problem where after 2008 was installed, it assigned a drive letter to each dpm volume.  Since this was a test box, there were only 2 volumes but the production server has many volumes.  I would like to avoid this if possible, is there a way to not have these volumes assigned a drive letter as part of the OS upgrade?

    thanks

  • Hey Earl,

I'm afraid not.  OS Upgrades will automatically assign a drive letter, can be a pain in the ____ I'm afraid :-(

    Sorry about that

  • Thanks for the reply Mike.  I just removed the drive letters from my test and everything seems fine.  I guess I'll just have to remove more drive letters on the production box.
