I have 2 clients with different problems, but I somehow have a feeling they are related.

When I run ccmsetup /uninstall I get this in the ccmsetup.log:

  • I don't know, you've changed too much stuff for me to follow - first start with push, then move to GPO, didn't specify how the GPO settings got implemented to GP, etc. Then back to a push. I'm confused :-(

  • when you copy the client to the machine and run the install/uninstall what happens?

  • First off, why are you using that path? Why not just go to the Client folder? I've never seen anyone use all the variables in the command line like you are (not saying it is the problem). Why not try a simple install without all the variables to ensure everything works, and then get more complex?

I'd do a push install, or just run ccmsetup, either from the site server's Client folder or even copied locally.

The error in the log, 0x8007041D is "The service did not respond to the start or control in a timely fashion"

  • I started with that - just using CCMSETUP and pushing the client. Since it only worked for some of the clients I had to start working my way through. As you know Wally, I've had quite a struggle with this installation. Yesterday I finally decided to drop the installation and make a new fresh install.

Primary reason for that decision was that we had a site code conflict with another installation.

I checked that the site code I've chosen now was not taken.

Now, with my fine fresh install I'm already starting to have problems again.

I decided to only discover a few of the clients for now. They show up just fine in the console - all with 'no' client and not assigned yet.

I take one machine, right-click and select 'install client' (select 'always install...' option). After a while I see the CCMSETUP process kick off on the machine. After a while it ends and I take a look at the config manager control panel only to see that it has assigned itself to the previous installation i made. The client properties of 'client push installation' on the MP is: "SMSSITECODE=DCV SMSMP=dcsvdsccm01 SMSSLP=dcsvdsccm01 FSP=dcsvdsccm01" (old site code was 'DAV', now it's 'DCV'. Old MP server was DCSVEDSCCM01, now it's DCSVDSCCM01 (no 'E').

So, I do 'ccmsetup /uninstall' on the client. Looks good, I check CCMSETUP.LOG:

    ![LOG[Uninstall of product '{CE6A85D8-D6B9-479A-9FE9-A06E56881E61}' succeeded.]LOG]!><time="14:24:26.909+-60" date="09-10-2008" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="1" thread="4784" file="msiutil.cpp:1135">
    <![LOG[Uninstall succeeded.]LOG]!><time="14:24:26.940+-60" date="09-10-2008" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="1" thread="4784" file="msiutil.cpp:1138">
    All is fine.

I delete the CCM and CCMSETUP folders on the client.

Since I've changed the GPO to match the new server, I decided to search for the old MP name in registry. I find nothing. Good.

I do a search for the new MP and find it at

HKLM\software\policies\Microsoft\ccmsetup\SetupParameters = "SMSMP=dcsvdsccm01 SMSSLP=dcsvdsccm01 FSP=dcsvdsccm01 SMSDIRECTORYLOOKUP=NOWINS". Again, that is good so I know the GP has been refreshed.

I go the SCCM to once again push the client. Same way as before, right-click machine and 'install client' (selecting defaults). It looks good in the CCM.LOG (says its copied the files over).

I check the client but find nothing has been copied. Wierd. I try again 'install client'...

Side note: Just discovered that many of the clients are failing install due to 'Failed to install CCM Client Bootstrap component on client (1053)'. Hmm.

Now the MP is getting funny on me ... nothing in the CCM.log is written for the client. Waited 10 minutes or so.

Well, try again ... right-click.. install client.

    Nothing.

Just took a look at the state of all clients ... none have installed (did a update collection membership on the 'all systems' collection).

    *sigh*
