Exchange 2007 - Email sent to wrong recipient RRS feed

  • We have had a situation where a recipient receives an email addressed to another recipient but this is not a BCC issue. All users involved are internal users on the same Exchange system consisting of two CCR mailbox servers and two CAS servers.

    Here is what happened

    UserA emails UserB

    UserC receives the email and replies to USERA saying is this meant for me

    The header information shows the email was indeed sent to USERB

    Check message tracking logs which shows that the email went to and was received by UserB (although it did not show up in UserB's mailbox). No sign of email going to UserC, but reply from UserC to userA is shown.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Solution found.

    There was a UserD managing UserB and UserC mailboxes and inadvertently  moved the message from UserB mailbox to UserC mailbox before UserB saw the email. This also explains the message tracking logs not showing the email going from UserA to UserC.
