Reboot delay of security updates RRS feed

  • Question

  •
Let suppose there are new security updates.
Most of them usually requires restart.

But, I may have reasons I do not want / cannot
to restart just after update, but some hours/days after.

Is is better to update ASAP and
reboot at the earliest convenience ?

Or is better to update just before reboot ?

Perhaps half performed updates can put system
in less stable/desired state, or there can be
some interference with waiting changes to be done.

E.e. one can forget about this state and run
some thorough system maintenance / clean up utility.

  • I assume from security point of view is probably better update ASAP,
as at least part of code gets updated. This can matter especially for In-the-Wild treats.

But I have in mind here rather system stability,
evaluating risk if both update stages are timely separated.
