IE 8 and Protection Mode: Off

Question
-
When I switch to IE 8 as my browser and surf the Internet, I see at the bottom: Internet/Protected Mode: Off. Since I have all security checked to enable Protected Mode, why does it say at bottom of page "Internet/Protected Mode: Off"?Saturday, June 20, 2009 4:49 AM

Similar to IE 7, protection mode shows off under the following conditions:
- User Account Control (UAC) is disabled – If UAC is disabled, Protected Mode is turned OFF. When UAC is disabled, some of the protections which Protected Mode depends on are not available, for example, UI Privilege Isolation (UIPI) is disabled. Hence, Protected Mode is turned off in this scenario.
- IE is running with Administrator privileges – Protected Mode is turned off when IE is launched by right clicking on the IE icon and selecting “Run as administrator” or when IE is launched with administrative privileges from another application. This generally occurs when an installer/setup program running with administrator privileges starts a new IE process.
- IE is navigated to a local HTML page – When the page being viewed is a local file, Protected Mode is turned OFF since the contents of the page are considered safe. Caveat: If the page was saved from a zone (for example Internet) which has Protected Mode enabled, then Protected Mode is turned ON.
You can check if this is the case.

To whom it concerns I use ie 8 with windows 7 trying to log in
to facebook and it would not let me do so
Then I saw where it said internet protected mode on so I decided to
turn it off and try
Well what do you know it worked I can now use facebook but I know
protected mode is meant to be on so it does as it says and protects my computer
Is there any way I can leave protected mode on and allow it to let facebook work
around it
You know like a firewall where you leave it on but set it to allow certain web sites and programs
to pass through it
Any help and advice much appreciated sincerely Vikki
