Drivers injected but not showing in Device Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We are using MDT 2013. We are injecting HP Z4 and Z440 drivers in the reference image. And we are using Z4 machine for the deployment of reference image and capture.

Now, after we apply the captured image in Z4 machine, in Device Manager, there is no missing drivers. But when we apply the image on Z440, in Device Manager we see lot of drivers missing. We didn't find any system damage or inconsistent behavior though.

Is this expected or how to resolve this issue? As the drivers are injected in Boot.wim file while booting from the Z440 machine, it should have been loaded in Device Manager also. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Sourav

  • Drivers that are injected into the boot.wim file are only for WINPE and will not install into windows. The only drivers needed for WINPE are the storage and network drivers. Since you injected the drivers for the Z4 those drivers are already loaded into windows that is why all devices are loaded for that model.

You should load all drivers you need into the deployment share and follow any number of guides to make sure those drivers get loaded for the correct model. There is no need to add them directly into windows. This keeps the wim size down. Many like the total control method described here, https://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/325/MDT-2013-Lite-Touch-Driver-Management
