  • Question

  • Hi All,

Is it possible to register the Polycom Phones that are SIP capable with Lync Server(Polycom IP 550, Polycom IP 5000, Polycom 335). I'm aware that there are Polycom phones that can communicate with Lync. Are these the only phones that can be registered with Lync? Can't we register any SIP Phone with Lync Server? How will an organization that has thousands of phones already in place benefit from Lync?

  • Hi,

Registering non Lync Phone Edition phones to Lync is not possible.  However; there are 3rd party products from Audio Codes and NET that allow you to use certain IP phones with their software as Lync endpoints.  These are not the same user experiences as Lync/OCS, but might be ok based on scnearion.  You can read more about doing that with Smart SIP here:

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks Kevin, If Lync has to be replaced in the organaization where Avaya is the PBX, do you mean all the Avaya Phones have to replaced with Lync Phones? Or I think the other option is SIP Trunking so that the users registered with Avaya can still communicate with Lync Clients...
