Hyper-V Host unable to ping VM

    Question

  • Hi guys,

    this week i encounter an issue while deploying 2 Hyper V host.

    first of all, the infra has several VLAN.

    i configure 4 trunk port at switch as i use 2 port at each host for teaming, in hyper-v switch i use that teaming as v Switch external network.

    Scenario is like this

    VLAN10 = .10

    VLAN20 = .20

    Host A

    192.168.10.201 (VLAN10) configure at vSwitch VLAN ID

    VM1

    192.168.10.100 (VLAN10 set at VM Network Adapte VLAN tag)

    VM2

    192.168.20.100 (VLAN20 set at VM Network Adapte VLAN tag)

    before i create cluster, i able to ping both VM, upon creating cluster with another host, only able to ping VLAN10 VM, any work around for this or tech note. v Switch is identical on both host.

  • Hi Sir,

    >>upon creating cluster with another host

    Do you mean building hyper-v host cluster for two hosts?

    >>before i create cluster, i able to ping both VM

    >>only able to ping VLAN10 VM

    Could you please detail the source computer of executing "Ping" ?

    Do you mean the computers (connecting to same physical switch  )resided in VLAN20  can not access VM2 ?

    The title mentioned "hyper-v host unable to ping VM" .Which host did you ping from ?

    Based on the design , the Host B might be in same VLAN as Host A (VLAN 10) , then create hyper-v cluster for them , right ?

    If yes ,  VLAN 20 shouldn't be accessable from VLAN 10 when you didn't configure vlan routing or some other configuration .

    In addition  please detail the topology for us if it is possible .

    Best Regards,

    Elton
