Hybrid Exchange change SMTP issues

    Question

  • Hi Gents,

Is it possible to change a user account in a Hybrid Exchange?
User married and wants a name change.

I've tried to replicate the situation with a test account.

AD User -> Exchange Mailbox -> Move towards Exchange Online.

    Set-MsolUserPrincipalName –UserPrincipalName tests@domain.com -NewUserPrincipalName testm@domain.com

    Changed the following :

    - Targetaddress towards new UPN
    - Proxyaddress add the new UPN as SMTP
    - AD Attribute Mail

I'm able to relay mail towards the new UPN and back, but still shows the old Displayname and SMTP address.
Also im afraid this impacts the users SSO experiance alot.

    Could you please advise?

Thank you for taking my question into concideration.

  • Did you actually change the Display name attribute? Have in mind that Outlook will not recognize the new SMTP address until he has recreated the profile (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3040795). Other than that, simply confirm whether DirSync has picked up the changes and 'touch' the object if needed.

In Hybrid Exchange setup, i believe your Object is being replicated to Online. Hence you need to change the details at On-Premise end and then replicate the same.

Do a force DirSync Once you see the changes at Online end then you can try testing..
