Almost all applications will not load in Windows Vista x64. RRS feed

  • Hey all,
So I am running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 at home.  It starts fine, explorer and a few programs will start up, but then that will be it.  Right now I have Logmein, windows sidebar, Comodo firewall, and keyboard software running.  I should have a least 5 other programs that startup alongside these.  When I try to manually start these programs, it looks as if it is working for about 1 second and then nothing.  No errors pop up, just nothing.  So far the only program I can even get to start up is IE7 64bit.   The 32bit IE won't start and neither will anything else.   I have run chkdsk, but that is about all I could do.  In eventvwr it will list the programs as "Timing Out," but with no errors.  I am extemely cautious with files and almost all of my downloads come from download.com or sourceforge so I don't think it is a virus.  I tried to run a repair from the vista boot CD, but apparently all they allow you to do is restore and I have no good restore points.
