The initial contact is by telephone.

If they need you to provide files, logs, or anything else, they wil give you an email address for those.

    Hope this helps.

  • Wow, that has definitely not been the case in my experience.  I called the number provided to report a an issue I found in Windows Vista SP1 and was told that I would have to write a letter and snail mail it to Microsoft.

I just want to someone at Microsoft to be aware of the problem I found.  Turns out reporting a bug to Microsoft is a lot more work then I had expected, so much so that it's not worth it to me.

If anyone knows of another method in which to report problems, other then snail mailing a letter to Microsoft please let me know.

The information I posted was based on my last experience using that bug reporting procedure.

Regardless of the procedure, it is important to report the bug. Using the Official bug reporting procedure guarantees that the bug report will get to the product development team that is responsible for the component where the bug exists.

The 'unofficial' way to report a bug would be to start another thread here and include the very explicit steps to reproduce the bug. Include a complete description of your system and any third party applications/drivers that may be involved. Doing this may or may not get the information to the proper people, but at least it is better than just not reporting anything. You should get some responses from other users either confirming the behavior or not.

    Hope this helps.
