SBS 2011 - disable automatic updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Client has requested that Updates be Scheduled & Monitored

    Ideally - tested / Before after !!!!

How do I disable ALL automatic updates on SBS 2011.

    Both Server and Workstations

    • Users / Admins should NOT be prompted
    • Updates NOT applied accidentally when shutting server down for what ever reason

Whilst I don't totally agree - its what the client wants.

  • Go into the security tab and change the update settings so that they are not auto approved.  SBS console, security tab update settings.

You should also edit the registry on the server so that the shutdown button doesn't offer up updates on shut down when the setting is download but do not install.  It's just a registry setting.

Unfortunately TechNet isn't coming back, sorry folks :-(

  • The setting of the updates settings is on the console.

The disabling of the 'install updates on shut down'

Technet subscriptions have been discontinued and will not be coming back.
