DHCP filtering with client computers mac addresses RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks,

I tried to configure my DHCP server running on Windows Server 012 R2 Standard to restrict client based on their mac addresses. I only want to apply the restriction on a few scopes (scope level policy). I followed below guide:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/teamdhcp/2012/09/15/scope-level-link-layer-filtering-using-dhcp-policies-in-windows-server-2012/

But I am unable to get this setup work. Even though the policy is supposed to deliver DHCP lease to only 'known' MAC addresses, any computer connecting to the VLAN is getting an IP address. I suspect the issue might be that the DHCPDISCOVER packet (if I get this correctly) is containing the Cisco router DHCP Relay agent interface mac address and not the actual client computer mac address.

Is there any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this or how I can get this setup work?

    Any advice will help! Thanks!
