Connecting outlook 2010 to office 365 mail using exchange protocol RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am developing a outlook add-in which I need to test against a exchange mail server.
In order to save the time of setting up a exchange server I registered for office 365 trial online, I have got a email address which I can logon to using https://outlook.office365.com/owa/

Now I want to connect my outlook 2010 desktop client to this email - also I do not want to use pop3/imap protocols since the whole purpose is to test against  exchange. So is this even possible???

I tried several resources on the web like:
    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/POP-and-IMAP-settings-for-Outlook-Office-365-for-business-7fc677eb-2491-4cbc-8153-8e7113525f6c

but most of them are either for newer outlook versions or result in outlook repeatedly asking me for my user name / password...

    Any ideas?

  • Firstly, this is not a programming question.

Secondly, to access Office 365 (which uses MAPI-over-HTTP protocol), you will need Outlook 2010 SP2, 2013 SP1, or 2016. What is your version of Outlook 2010?

  • Hello,

I'd suggest asking non-programming questions on the Outlook IT Pro or Office IT Pro discussions forums. Also you may consider posting to the Microsoft Answers forums.

  • Hi Zodiac7,

You may try to add the email account directly in your Outlook via the Auto Account Setup wizard:

Or, you may try manually set up the Office 365 account in your Outlook according to the instructions here:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/hot/2012/02/05/how-to-manually-configure-outlook-office-365/

    Hope this helps.
