Device Guard and Google Chrome performance RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have noticed that some web applications are on some windows 10 systems very slow. Sometimes 2x slower than on win7 or some win10 systems. I have concluded it is caused by device guard (virtualization based security).

    Proof:

    A)

Install clean win10 into VM that has support for VBS.

Make sure in "msinfo32" Virtualization-based security is "Running".

Run Octane 2.0 benchmark with chrome browser: https://chromium.github.io/octane/

    Write down the score.

    B)

Run Windows Defender Device Guard and Windows Defender Credential Guard hardware readiness tool with -Disable switch

    Reboot

On boot screen you might press F3 when asked

Make sure in "msinfo32" Virtualization-based security is "Not enabled"

Run Octane 2.0 benchmark with chrome browser: https://chromium.github.io/octane/

    Write down the score.

    C)

Compare score A and score B. For me it was 10000 vs 14000

Is B larger number on your test too?

Any ideas how to improve VBS+Chrome performance?

  • Hello David,

They both were at latest version. Are you aware of such bug and it should be fixed?
