  • Hello,

Please ensure that you have correctly configured the IPv6 IP address on the Windows Server 2003 machine, and the DNS server is accessible from Windows Server 2003 side.

You could refer to the following article to configure IPv6 in Windows Server 2003.

  • Hi Dude,

Nice to know that you have successfully deployed DNS on windows 2008  in IPv6 environment. I am trying and struggling a lot to deploy AD and integrated DNS on Windows 2008 in pur IPv6 environment. DCPROMO wizard and DNS installation getting through successfully without any issues. But i could not see DC zone populated with required DNS records. I could see onlu SOA and NS entries. Nslookup also gives error like DNS request time out with host name shown as Unkown and IP getting displayed correctly. Link local IP address is getting assigned automatically to the card because IP Autoconfiguration is enabled by default and that IP remains even though you assign static IP. IP Autoconfiguration should be disabled but don't have any info for Widnows 2008. IP address and hostname is pingable but the FQDN domain name for which DC is configured is not pingable but no quad A record is populated automatically. Firewall is disabled on the box.

If you could pass on step by step configuration for deploying AD and DNS in pure IPv6 environment on Windows 2008 then that will be of great help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Server 2003 does not support being installed in IPv6 only mode. Windows 2008 is the first server OS that allows that.
