I can migrate SCCM 2007 > 2012 at a leisurely pace? RRS feed

  • Question

  • It looks to me like I can take my time doing all of the ground work, but that I'm not really committed to anything until I migrate my clients. Is that correct?

I have a SCCM 2007 hierarchy with 10 secondary sites all reporting directly to a single primary site.   Here's what I'm thinking about doing:

    1.  Build a new servers to run SCCM 2012, SQL 2012, and to be a new distribution point for my primary site.

    2.  Migrate select packages and collections - just those needed to deploy software.

    3.  Start completely over with OSD - new image, updated drivers, new task sequence.

Once I think everything is in place in SCCM 2012:

    4.  Remove my secondary sites from SCCM 2007.  I don't think they'll be missed for a weekend and it just seems less complicated this way.

    5.  Migrate my clients.

    6. Start building a new hierarchy.
