FIPS 140-2 Cert and Get-FileHash on Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Alright, First Post!

I need to make a hash of a file, So Im using the Get-FileHash tool in PowerShell to do so. Ive got my machine in fips mode and it appears that the tool wont allow the use of non fips algorithms(MD5 for example). The problem that Im running into is I need to prove that this operation is using a FIPS certified algorithm. I jumped over to NISTS's website and found microsoft's cert list but I couldnt find anything in relation to windows 10. This isnt really a problem if I can find out what Get-FileHash is calling to compute the actual hashes.

My question is: Is there any documentation that shows what Get-FileHash calls to do the actual computation of the hashes? If not does anyone know of a Fips Certified tool that can compute the Hash of a whole file?

    Thanks.
