Collect Email Security Certificates on Windows Vista PC RRS feed

  • It is not possible to collect Comodo free (or other) Email Security Certificates on computer running Windows Vista.

     

    With very high-quality help of Comodo support I was able to come-up with a procedure to install Comodo Email Security Certificate on computer running Windows Vista.

     

    Here it is:

     

    On Computer running Windows XP or other, but no Vista:

    Note: Do not use the web page addressees, use this procedure.

     

    1. Turn off you Windows Vista machine.

     

    2. Start your Windows XP machine.

     

    3. Open Outlook and add your email account to Email Accounts and make it default.

     

    4. Outlook>Tools>Options>Security>Get Digital ID

     

    5. Web Page will open: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/EY010504841033.aspx

     

    Select Comodo

     

    6. Web page will open: http://www.comodo.com/products/certificate_services/email_certificate.html

     

    Configure Comodo account and the go to:

     

    7. Click: “Get Your Free Email Certificate Now”

     

    8. Web Page will open:

     

    http://www.comodo.com/products/certificate_services/email_certificate.html

     

     Complete the application, use default for advance settings.

     

    9. Download you email and collect you certificate. Instructions are in the email from Comodo. You will get two emails.

     

    10. Format floppy (or something else) to save 10kB file and move it from one machine to another. If you have dual boot machine you will have to use floppy or something else to go out and back into the machine.

     

    11. Outlook>Tools>Options>Security>Import/Export>Export you Digital ID>Select  select you certificate, and OK.

     

    12. You are back on Import/Export Digital ID, Export is selected and the name of you certificate is in the top box, enter password and confirm. Browse to you a:\ and enter file name.pfx, click Save.

     

    13. OK, OK and take your floppy out.

     

    14. Delete the email account from this machine (optional).

     

    Start Windows Vista Machine.

     

    1. Outlook>Tools>Options>Security>Import/Export>Import existing Digital ID from a file>Browse to you certificate file on the floppy. Enter password and the name of the certificate.

     

    1. OK and you are done.

  • This can work for You solution but Vista does support cert in e-mail, you vendor has a work around, other with nativily with vista

    Please can you explain: "other with nativily with vista". The issue is to be able to collect the certificate.  One's collected on XP machine and imported (the certificate via floppy) I can use it to signed and or encrypt my email - that works. But to collect the certificate I hat to use Windows XP machine. IE7 is on bough machines.
