AppV 4.6SP2: Application node empty on client, but functions fine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello:

    I am experiencing a problem with the App-V 4.6 SP2 client.

    Environment:

Single management server running in Full Infrastructure mode.  Clients are all Terminal Servers.  OSD/SFT files are hosted on a DFS share.

We've been using this environment for quite some time now (years), and I have yet to see this problem.  Out of the blue, I started seeing that the Applications node was empty.  Applications appear to launch file, and refresh appear to be working as well.  I have verified this by using the following:

    1. Use SFTMIME to delete an application
    2. Use SFTTRAY to initiate a refresh.  Should put the application back on the machine.
    3. Use SFTTRAY to launch the app.  App loads (progress bar is visible) and launches

It doesn't appear that the application node is functioning properly.  I have examined the log on the client, and there are no errors (logging level is set to warning).

Any idea where I can look to see what is going on?

    Thanks,

  • Is this the case on one of your client machines or all?

  • Set the client log to Verbose and try again.

  • This behavior is on most of my terminal servers.  I have a few terminal servers that show the icons fine, but most do not.

I enabled verbose logging then deleted all apps and did a refresh.  The refresh produced no log entries at all.  Which, being verbose, I would have expected some...

To delete all apps, I used:

    sftmime delete obj:app /global

I then used the following command to verify that the packages were removed.

    sftmime query obj:package /short

Then I initiated a publishing refresh.  After the refresh was complete, I used the this command again and the packages were displayed, so it appears to just be a display error.

  • I think I have a performance issue that is causing this, but I'm not sure what component to look at.  If I leave the console alone and come back (1/2 hour or so), the apps are listed.

If I delete them, then do a refresh, I see the same behavior.  They apps don't appear.  But a while later, they all pop in just fine.

    Almost seems like disk performance....

  • Sure sounds like a performance problem! If you restart the service on one of the machines do the apps re-appear when you launch the client?
