Backup Unsuccessful RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials.

The backup process is not working. Error log posted below.

I have searched for this, but there are no posts that I can find for this version of windows, just Server 2008. So the hot fixes do not seem to apply.

Seeking furhter information on how to fix this problem.

  • So I had another fellow with a problem (not backups) and he disabled his AV and he still had the problem.  He uninstalled the AV and it worked.  I have no clue why, I mean...whatever.

How much problem it would be to uninstall your AV to give it a try.  I know server backup works with EFI.  Anything else on the box?

  • Have you installed an AV thingy on your server like "Symantec" for example?

  • Hi,

As Still mentioned, have you installed some AV programs in the system? In addition, since the OS is SBS 2011 Essentials, maybe we could try to install the following hotfix to update some VSS files to see if issue still exists:

    cryptsvc.dll

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647841

    vssapi.dll

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2253693

    volsnap.sys

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2627052

    vssvc.exe

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983426

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks Andy.

I am not the habit of just running hotfixes to take a stab at fixing things. I like to be sure of what I am doing.

I had seen this suggestion elsewhere, but the fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647841) is for Windows Vista and not Windows server 2011. So I have not followed it.

Besides, aren't these other hotfixes part of SP1? I am already running SP1.

Also, if I restart the server, the backup will work one time only. Then it fails on subsequent runs with the error I posted originally.

As Grey has asked, yes I am running an AV "thingy". I am using Kaspersky Endpoint 10.2.

I have tried disabling Kaspersky protection and testing backup, but it still fails.

I am wanting to seek further information on this.
