Win 7 machine no able to access Share on Win 10 machine.

    Question

  • Win 10 machine has fileshare being accessed by XP and MAC machines without problems.

Trying to connect a Win 7 machine but it insists that the login does not have access to the share.

The login and password are valid. The share and security is open to everyone. All machines are in the same workgroup.

The win 7 machine can see other machines on the net and the Win10 machine can see into shares on the Win 7 box.

So it is just the win7 => win10 that is the problem.

  • Hi Donald Campbell,

The main issue is that the Windows 7 machine cannot access to the shared folders on Windows 10 machine, right? What is the exact error message you have got?

"the login does not have access to the share"
Is it available to access other shared folders with the same credential?
Please clear the related credential on "Credential Manager" if there is one saved. If it is possible, please try to access with another credential to have a test. There is a possibility that the present user account have been corrupted.

We could try to disable the "Password" feature of the shared folder.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Change advanced sharing settings\Turn off password protected sharing

    Best regards
