Backing up an Exchange 2010 DAG with more than one DPM 2012R2 servers

  • Hi,

we have an Exchange DAG with than 10000 mailboxes so we would like to protect it with two different DPM Servers.

I have read that this is supported.

Is there anything special I have to consider?

Except of course that only one DPM can back up one specific Exch node.
So can I just "setdpmserver" for example the first 5 Exch nodes to DPM01 and the second 5 Exch nodes to DPM02 and configure Exch Backup as I am used to?

    Kind regards

  • Hi

Are you active copies on all 10 servers or on 5 only?

You will have 2 agents installed. I have 4 servers and i currently backup the active node but have an agent installed on all nodes and they only talking to one DPM server even though i have 2.

  • Hi,

we splitted it as described and it works without problems.
One thing that is left is that each DPM Server recognizes that the DAG consists of more nodes that it is protecting itself.

(The other nodes are protected by the other DPM)
    So following wwarning is shown:
    "No agent on Cluster node"
A protection agent is not installed on <HOSTNAME> in DAG server cluster. Protection may fail if a failover occurs to <HOSTNAME>

    Any Workaround?

  • BKPfast,

That is an informational warning and can be ignored if you know you have other DPM server's agents on other nodes in the DAG.  Thanks
