Apologies for posting this in a Vista Security forum, but I couldn't find a similar one for XP. I was prompted to download Flash Player 10 on my XP SP2 Home Edition system to view a video in IE6, and it appears that javascript may somehow have become disabled, not allowing Flash Player to run as an add-on program. I succesfully backed up (set a restore point) my Registry following instructions in MS support article 322756, and then tried to follow instructions in MS support article 915729 to use gpedit.msc to adjust Registry values for IE...Security Features...Add-on Management.
However, gpedit.msc does not appear to be on my system, even in hidden files and folders. Are there other ways I can do this withoutgpedit.msc ?
You may be able to accomplish your goal using registry hacks under the HKCU and HKLM Policies keys (Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies). Alternatively, you can try Doug Knox's Windows XP Security Console (which, btw, works on Home Edition):
