Sharepoint 2010 email alerts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Could anyone tell me, can the email alert frequency be modified? Can I choose whether Sharepoint sends the email alert for instance daily or once a week? I would like the SP to send an email alert daily to some persons if they have not approved a document in by the due date.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind rgds

    Susa

  • Thanks for moving the thread Mike.

Please can you advise what version of SharePoint 2010 you're using.

As Jasper has aready said, altering the OOB functionality would be problematic.  I suspect that the logic would be applied via the the /_layouts folder too, so even IF this change was possible, you'd be affecting all alerts everywhere.

The workflow option is a strong one here, as the SharePoint Designer offering is a lot stronger and has better/stronger workflow options within it than in previous versions of the site.

A search on CodePlex for free technologies that might help is: - http://www.codeplex.com/site/search?query=sharepoint%20alerts&ac=2

For the tools that Jasper has mentioned, please look here: - http://store.bamboosolutions.com/search.aspx?q=SharePoint Alerts

    I didn't see anything on SharePointreviews.com

    Hope that helps

  • Changing the alert functionality with OOTB SharePoint is impossible or really difficult. You could try 3rd party solutions if you want more alert functionality. Check out the website of Bamboo Solutions.

For this you could probably create a SP Designer workflow. Have you tried that?

    SharePoint it is :)
