Deployment scenario RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm test Win 8 deployment using LTI with MDT 2012. When using USB drive, the deployment is working as expected. I understand another choice is using WDS. Is it possible to deploy over network without WDS?

  • Hi, WDS is used for the PXE boot functionality, since you are running Windows operating systems and are going to deploy Windows operating systems I highly recommend you to configure WDS (not that hard), see these links for more information:

An other option is to use an USB boot stick, which will enable you to make contact with your deploymentshare within WinPE, but the contents are used from share instead of from USB stick, so any changes you make, you don't have to replicate to your USB stick.

So you then use this USB boot stick, each time you want to deploy an machine and make contact with the share. And of course you can initiate a deployment from within Windows, by running the "BDDrun.wsf" or "Litetouch.wsf" script, located in the .\DeploymentShare\Scripts folder, you can start a new deployment from within Windows. From there the machine will reboot and enter WinPE by itself, If I'm correct (trial & error)

thank you for the response. it's meaning that to deploy over network, other solution beside of wds can be done by manually initiate the script in \script folder within windows. will give a try tomorrow since im out of the office already now, will post again whether success or got another question again for this thread. thanks.
