KMS MP has no reports? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The 9/16/2009 update to the KMS Management Pack touts "decommissioned reports". This means that the only thing the MP appears to do is monitor the KMS service health.

Am I missing something here? That was the only way we knew about to get reports from KMS, and SCOM could monitor services without an extra MP anyway.

Two questions, then: how do you report key usage from KMS without reports, and why bother with the KMS MP in SCOM?

  • Many MP's ship without reports.  The built in reports in SCOM allow you to do a lot of reporting activities without needing a copy of the same functionality in the MP directly.  Customers can readily also create their own reports and save them in sidecar xml files so if you need a report that the MP authors didn't think of, you can create it, then save it to be reused (an MP report is just a slightly modified SRSS report that lets it run inside the OM console)
