Getting prompt for username and password on windows 7 in outlook 2007

    Question

  • We have users on windows 7.  Most of the users are using outlook 2007.   We are on exchange 2007 on windows server 2008 Enterprise and the server resides on our office.  Anybody have any ideas how to figure out why the following happens? A user will log into their computer just fine.  They launch outlook just fine and are working on the computer for hours.  All of a sudden outlook will prompt them for their username and password.  They can put their username and password in and continue to work, but it may happen again within a few hours.  I have noticed if we do a ipconfig/ release/renew it has corrected the problem for the rest of the day.  It is so far only about 15 users/pcs who have seen this issue.  We have replaced a user's pc to see if it fixes the issue, but the issue occured on the new pc as well.

  • Hi,

This issue might occurs when client machine lost connection with Exchange server and attempted to re-connect. Try running outlook in safe mode or disabling anti-virus software on client machine. Also try change version of network driver if all machines are using same model network adapter.

If the issue still persists, please post same thread in TechNet Exchange forum, they have similar practice and There you can get more effective suggestion by other experts who familiar with Exchange system. Your understanding is highly appreciated.

  • It's possible, as others suggested, that there is a network interruption, but this also a known problem that sometimes occurs in Outlook 2007.  I have found it very difficult to resolve in the past.  This might help -

  • Hi

Are the users or the exchange server losing network connection when this happens as this would promt for username and password? May be worth checking the event logs.
