SharePoint on a demoted DC RRS feed

    I have SharePoint services 3.0 running on a server 2003 standard server acting as a secondary DC and terminal server

    I need to remove Domain controller role and rejoin the domain as a member again.

    I understand I should not have any issues on the Terminal services end but as fare as sharepoint is there any backup /restore method that I should take? Should I set services to run under a different account beforehand? My issue is that I cannot connect connect it to the network to demote it, I need to just drop the domain and then rejoin.

    This previous forum posts suggests demoting the server should not impact SharePoint, and the service accounts and domain are not changing so so I suppose it could work. I am hesitant having never tried it myself. Definitely take a full farm backup (catastrophic backup) before you start. 


    If it was me, I would stop all of the SharePoint-related services (including SQL Server if it's on the same machine) before demoting it so they won't complain during the process. Then set the services to disabled (note which ones are set to automatic and which ones are set to manual) so when the server reboots after removing it from the domain they don't start up again. Join the domain and restart again. Reenable the services (set them back to the state they were in before removing) and restart again to ensure they start up as expected.
