Manual Capture of Windows 10 ImageX DISM RRS feed

  • Question

  • For our Windows 7 reference images, I have created a WinPE ISO with imagex and captured the image which was then imported into MDT. I wanted to know if this manual procedure stays true for Windows 10>? I don't want to create a task sequence for capture. I am interested in a manual approach. I can't find good documentation on how to perform this via DISM manually.

I would appreciate some direction or guidance. Thank you!

  • There are no changes in the capture portions of the MDT task sequences.  Although as of 2013 update 1 we use dism to capture.

Logs are very important. https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Mention any customizations you have made.

  • Hi Ty. I understand that. For Windows 7 I created a winpe iso. After sysprepping my image on my virtual machine I would then restart and boot into that winpe iso. I would then run the imagex command line to capture the wim file. Can this process be applicable to Windows 10?

  • Why wouldn't it be?  From the MDT perspective a sysprep'd captured WIM is a sysprep'd captured WIM. Don't expect upgrade to work though.

  • I have been reading that imagex has been deprecated since Windows 8...

What is the command line for capturing image using DISM? Is it

    Dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:d:\my-image.wim /CaptureDir:c:\ /Name:”My Image”
